Seniors - Over 50's Club

The President of the group is Gene Rothenbaum. The group is comprised of both single people and couples.  It has a membership of approximately 300 seniors.

Small groups also meet for special interests such as Rummikub, current events discussions, and a Yiddish group.  They plan outings to plays, casino trips, and cruises.

CHAVUROT DISCUSSION GROUPS

If you're looking for fun-filled, mind-stretching adult events, our Chavura meetings are just the thing for you. The meetings are for serious people interested in topics beyond those of the latest feeding frenzy of our media, including:

• The changing roles of the US government vs. individuals and the nations of Europe;
• The unfolding economic crisis in Asia;
• The growing conflicts between the HMO's and consumers.

These are matters of concern to Chavura members because they know (without being overly dramatic) that how these are handled may well impact "...our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor." Despite this seriousness, we are nevertheless a social group, looking to have some fun yet also sharpen our understanding through discussion. We are not all of one mind or one generation or one ideology-and that interplay of diverse people is what makes it fun.

Groups meet monthly from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at a member's house or other location to be arranged. Groups consist of 8-10 people; if there is enough interest, more groups can be formed. B'nai Shalom members may invite their friends or relatives to these discussions.

COUNCIL FOR JEWISH ELDERLY

Council for Jewish Elderly (CJE) has been serving the needs of the Jewish community in the Chicago area for over 25 years. CJE provides support for living independently in your own home. Many CJE services are now being provided in the suburbs, including:

• Home delivered Kosher meals, fresh or frozen, delivered to your door;
• Personal services, including grooming, bathing, housekeeping, laundry and exercise on a regular or temporary basis;
• Consultations, including advice on housing options, nutrition and personal care;
• Counseling, including assistance copying with the daily stresses of aging;
• Private care management, including coordination and monitoring of service delivery;
• Elder care meditation, including conflict resolutions for care, housing and/or finances;
• Adult day services, including supervised, structured group programs that maximize independence;
• Home health, with quality care provided by RNs, therapists, social workers or aides;
• Bill paying and help with check writing and budgeting;
• Health services such as screenings, flu shots and information.

The CJE Resource Center is at Gidwitz Place, 1551 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield. Assistance includes information about community services, Circuit Breaker/Pharmaceutical Card, RTA, Senior Health Insurance Program, etc.
